Wood in the Bathroom: How to Keep It Beautiful for Years
Many people ask us the same question:
“Will solid wood swell, crack, or darken in a bathroom?”
The short answer is: not when it’s properly made and properly finished.
Solid wood has been used in bathrooms and interiors for generations. Quality hardwoods such as oak offer excellent durability, while alder is valued for its stability and smooth texture. With the right finish and a little everyday care, wooden accessories remain beautiful for many years.
Like any natural material, wood simply benefits from a bit of attention—not because it’s fragile, but because it’s alive.
1. Clean Gently
Wooden accessories don’t require special cleaning products.
Simply wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth. If needed, use a mild soap solution, then dry the surface afterward.
Avoid bleach, abrasive cleaners, or aggressive chemicals, as they may gradually wear down the protective finish.
2. Don’t Leave Standing Water
Normal bathroom humidity is not a problem for properly finished solid wood.
What wood doesn’t like is prolonged contact with standing water.
If water remains on the surface after a shower, simply wipe it away with a dry cloth. This small habit helps preserve the finish and keeps the wood looking its best for years.
3. Refresh the Finish Occasionally
All of our bathroom wooden accessories are protected with a high-quality hardwax oil finish.
Unlike thick varnishes that create a plastic-like layer, hardwax oil penetrates the wood while allowing it to retain its natural appearance and pleasant tactile feel.
After years of everyday use, if the surface begins to look slightly dry, simply refresh it with a suitable maintenance oil or hardwax oil following the manufacturer’s instructions.
A quick refresh restores the richness of the wood and extends the life of the finish.
Why We Choose Solid Wood
One of the greatest qualities of real wood is that it ages gracefully.
Instead of looking worn out, solid wood gradually develops a richer tone and subtle character. Small variations in colour and texture are a natural part of the material and make each piece unique.
With proper care, quality wooden accessories can serve your home beautifully for many years.
Solid wood doesn’t require complicated care—just a little attention from time to time.
Whether used in a bathroom, hallway or other living spaces, a quality finish and simple everyday care help preserve both the appearance and durability of natural wood.
